Hurricane Katrina but manufactured housing in the media and limelight more than any other time in history. Unfortunately a lot of it had to do with the misconceptions about "FEMA Trailers" and the confusion about the differences between RVs or recreational vehicles and manufactured housing.
The manufactured housing industry really stepped up and joined together to help residents of the Gulf coast have safe and affordable temporary and permanent housing. The Katrina Cottages and MEMA cottages were great examples of how efficient and beautiful our homes can be.
The Manufactured Housing Institute publication Modern Homes Magazine had an article that addressed these homes and the people who ended up living in them. It was written by Lifestylist® Suzanne Felber with photographs by Lisa Stewart Photography and we are sharing a copy of that story here - we think it deserves to be revisited.
